Hebrew-English Guide to Soncino
29 THE FORTRESS By entering the Captain’s Tower, you reach a room, used as a kitchen, covered by a barrel vault, with a large window with brick seats, a well and a fireplace. Through the internal stairs you reach the next floor of the tower where there is the second well, symmetrical to the first, and the superior room, used as a bedroom, with a wide window and a toilet. Of great interest is the southeastern tower used as a chapel where it is possible to notice traces of frescoes. The oldest of these frescoes portraits a Madonna con Bambino. On the second layer of plaster you can admire a fragment of a fresco portraying the lion of San Marco, memory of the Venetian domina- tion.
